Negotiators for the Scandinavian union SAS resumed talks with pilot unions at 10am on Wednesday, with unions saying success or failure of the discussions is down to the airline.
Pilot unions in Sweden, Denmark and Norway have agreed to extend talks with the SAS airline until midday on Monday, after a deadline on Saturday passed without a deal. SAS flights scheduled for this weekend will fly as normal.
Scandinavian airline SAS and the Swedish pilot union Swedish Air Line Pilots Association (SPF) are now in direct talks, without the help of mediators, raising hopes that a strike scheduled for Saturday can be avoided.
The seven-day pilots’ strike that stretched from the end of April into early May cost SAS some 650 million Swedish kronor ($68 million), the airline announced on Tuesday.
While the worst of the SAS strike may be over, the Scandinavian airline still cancelled over 30 departures from Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo on Friday in the aftermath of a week-long pilot strike.
With an additional 64,000 passengers expected to be hit by the ongoing SAS pilots' strike on Sunday, the Scandinavian airline has said it will reject all traveller compensation claims.
