What are Norway's highest-paying jobs and occupations?
Norway's known for its high wages, but how much do workers in its highest paying sectors take home each month?
Generally speaking, salaries in Norway are quite high across the board, and the average monthly earnings of 56,360 kroner (before taxes) are enough for people to lead a good life in Norway.
But if you want to move from having a decent living to being well off, you might be tempted to seek out sectors or occupations that pay well.
From financial services and IT to real estate and the public sector, several sectors offer lucrative job prospects.
Top-earning occupations
To no one's surprise, bosses and senior management top the list of best-paid occupations in Norway. According to Statistics Norway's (SSB) figures most recent figures, managing directors and chief executives made an average of 96,820 kroner per month. This was two and a half times more than the average monthly earnings of the lowest-paid occupation.
Managers had the second most lucrative pay packet at 82,300 kroner per month.
Workers dubbed as professionals, technicians and associate professionals were the next highest paying occupations; they took home 63,750 and 62,150 kroner per month, respectively.
Professionals working in technical sectors were in second place, with technicians and associate professionals being paid an average of 56,320 kroner each month.
Clerical support workers earned considerably less and were the fifth highest earning occupation group, taking home 47,120 kroner each month.
Norway's best paying jobs
Norway's national data agency also keeps data on specific industries and jobs. Managers who worked in mining were Norway's top earners in 2023.
They took home an average of 126,160 kroner per month - or more than double the national average.
Trade brokers also earned a healthy salary in 2023, earning an average of 124,810 kroner per month.
Other workers in the finance sector, such as financial and insurance services branch managers and finance managers, made between 111,000 and 107,000 kroner a month.
Senior government officials were sandwiched between the two different finance managerial roles in the earnings table with an average take home of 114,210 kroner per month.
Aircraft pilots and related associate professionals, securities and finance dealers and brokers, specialist medical practitioners, geologists and geophysicists and managing directors and chief executives were the other jobs to feature in the top ten for highest average earnings in Norway.
There wasn't a massive difference in earnings among these occupations, with pay slips ranging from 103,130 to 104,310 each month.
By comparison, a waiter, farm labourer, kitchen porter, market research interviewer, and fast food worker made between 30,980 and 35,700 kroner per month.
