The Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) sent out 2025 tax returns between March 9th and March 30th.
The calculated tax figures in the return are only preliminary, so you might need to fix errors or add any missing information.
The deadline to review and submit them is April 30th (if you own a company, such as a sole proprietorship or an AS, do not panic; you have until May 31st).
So far, around 4.3 million people have checked their tax returns, and more than 3 million have already sent them in.
If you do not check and update your form, the Norwegian Tax Administration will process your return using the pre-filled information.
“This does not mean that something is wrong, but you should have checked that what is in the tax return is correct,” said Skatteetaten in a statement.
By failing to check your tax return, you may miss out on a refund, which would be good for your finances. Or you might get an unpleasant surprise later if you are required to pay an unexpected tax bill.
Early numbers from March showed about 2.7 million people could get tax credits, with an average refund of 15,200 kroner each. Altogether, that’s 42 billion kroner in possible payouts.
Around 9 out of 10 taxpayers will receive their tax settlement before the summer (between April and June). However, some may have to wait until the autumn, particularly if a return is selected for extra control or an audit.
If you owe money in back taxes, you can pay by May 31st to avoid extra interest.
Last-minute advice
If you’re looking over your return in the last hours, here’s some advice from the Norwegian Tax Administration.
Start by verifying the basics. Make sure all the pre-filled numbers for your income, assets, housing, and loans are correct.
Be sure to add any missing information by updating your income or deductions if they weren’t filled in automatically.
If you’re not sure which claims you can make, check the official Deduction Guide. Listing the wrong deductions on purpose can lead to extra tax penalties or having to pay money back.
Need an extension?
If you can’t file your return by the deadline, you need to apply for an extension by logging into your Skatteetaten portal before time runs out. You can’t apply after April 30th has passed.
