Picture this: your long-awaited holiday is here. You’re at the airport, still bundled up in the heavy winter coat you need for Norway’s cold, even though you’re heading somewhere warm.
Dragging a big parka can ruin the vibe of a tropical trip. It’s bulky and heavy, and squeezing it into an overhead locker is a hassle. Still, you’ll need it for your commute home in Norway.
Flytoget, Norway’s airport express train, has come up with a great solution: The Jacket Hotel (Jakkehotell). They’ll look after your winter coat for free while you’re away.
The catch is that this service only applies if you are travelling with Flytoget, not the regular Vy trains. It’s an extra perk for the airport express, so you’ll need to show that you travelled with them that day.
You can check your jacket in at a special counter in the Flytoget area at Gardermoen, Oslo Airport.
Don’t leave any valuables in the pockets, since Flytoget won't be held responsible if anything left inside goes missing.
They’ll ask for your ID and give you a pick-up slip. Here’s a tip: take a photo of it, in case you lose the paper while sipping margaritas abroad.
You can only leave one jacket per person, but you can pick up jackets for your friends if you have their slip or a photo of it.
If anything gets damaged while it’s stored, Flytoget has committed to covering the costs as long as you can show a receipt or proof of purchase.
If they lose your jacket, which they say is “against all odds”, they’ll replace it for up to 15,000 kroner and even pay for a taxi to get you home.
After all, no one wants to take the bus in a Hawaiian shirt during Oslo’s cold February or March weather.
The Jacket Hotel isn’t open 24/7, so check your flight times. It usually opens at 07:15 am (08:15 am on weekends) and closes at midnight.
Just let them know when you plan to return, and if your flight is delayed, it’s not a problem.
If it’s easier, Flytoget can even send your jacket on one of their trains to Oslo S Station for you to pick up there.
You have up to four weeks to pick up your coat after you get back. But don’t wait too long, the service is seasonal and closes for the summer. If you haven’t collected it by May 1st, 2026, it will be marked as lost property.
