“No Other Land” is about a Palestinian activist who allies himself with an Israeli journalist after the war in Gaza breaks out. The film is a co-production between Palestine and Norway.
Meanwhile, Norwegian Mona Fastvold is nominated for best screenplay for the film "The Brutalist".
Fastvold wrote the script for the drama film together with her director husband, Brady Corbe, and it is an American production.
Several Norwegian films featured on this year’s Oscar nomination shortlist but weren’t put forward for an award.
“Armand” was on the shortlist for best international film and was directed by Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel and stars Renate Reinsve, the lead actress in "The Worst Person in the World" (Verdens verste menneske), which received two Oscar nominations in 2021.
“The Remarkable Life of Ibelin” (Ibelin) is a documentary about the life of Mats Steen, who passed away in 2014 as a result of the disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of 25. Steen had built up an extensive network through gaming, with the film’s title inspired by his World of Warcraft character’s name.
Upon its release, it was considered a hot-favourite to at least receive a nomination but only made the nomination shortlist.
“Maybe Elephants” (Kanskje det var elefanter) is a short animated film and was made by director Torill Kove.
Fifteen Norwegian films, including "No Other Land", have garnered Academy Award nominations, with two winning the award. Thor Heyerdahl's “Kon-Tiki” won best feature film in 1951, while Torill Kove's “The Danish Poet” won best animated short film in 2006.
