Oslo Municipality will not have fireworks on New Year's Eve this year. The last time it organized fireworks was in 2019.

On New Year's Eve this year, fireworks are only allowed outside the city centre, Oslo Municipality announced on Sunday.

There is a total ban on fireworks in areas with wooden houses, such as Vålerenga and Kampen.

The time window for legally launching rockets is between 6 pm and 2 am.

According to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), the municipality last organized fireworks in 2019 -before the coronavirus pandemic.

The municipality has also published advice for those planning to set off fireworks outside the city centre.

Here are some of the rules and recommendations from city officials:

  • Wear safety goggles. Even children and spectators should use protective glasses.
  • It is forbidden to let children under the age of 18 set off fireworks.
  • Set off private fireworks at a safe distance from other people, cars, and buildings.
  • Private individuals cannot import fireworks from abroad.
