This is one to keep in mind when taking public transport in Norway.

What does it mean?

Dørene lukkes directly translated means “the doors are closing”.

Why do I need to know this?

Because dørene lukkes is a simple but important message you will hear multiple times a day on public trains and trams in the bigger cities of Norway. No matter what stop you are at in the city, when you file onto the train or tram you should do so in a quick but safe manner.

There isn’t an ample amount of time to get on before the doors automatically close behind you. And the only warning you will receive is an automatic one from the loudspeaker claiming dørene lukkes just seconds before the doors close and off you go to the next stop.

How it is used " Alle om bord, dørene lukkes." - “All aboard, the doors are closing.”

Dørene lukkes ikke om den er blokkert. - The doors will close if they aren’t blocked.
