Flights will resume at 1600 GMT on Saturday. People arriving in Norway by plane from the UK must fill out a travel registration form before arriving in Norway.

Following the lead of other European nations, Norway halted travel from the UK on December 21st after news that a new variant of the coronavirus was rapidly spreading.

In the government’s latest update on travel restrictions it states that anyone who arrives in Norway from January 2nd, must take a Covid-19 test when entering the country at one of its border test stations, either directly upon arrival or up to 24 hours after.

Those who don’t have a place of residence in Norway must stay in a quarantine hotel for 10 days after arrival.

"We are now doubly worried about import infection. We are both concerned about outbreaks of new mutated virus variants that may be more contagious, and that many will return to Norway after Christmas from countries with far higher levels of infection than we have here.

"If this mutation were to spread in Norway, it would probably require a full closure of society."  says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

The new variant of the coronavirus is believed to have first appeared in London and Kent and is reported to be up to 70 percent more contagious than other strains.

Based on what scientists know so far, the variant does not appear to cause more serious illness than other kinds of coronavirus.
