Dating black man 'a crash course in racism': Norway princess
Norway's Princess Märtha Louise has said her year dating the black shaman Durek Verrett has helped her understand the racism fueling the protests sweeping the US and beyond.
The princess, who last year agreed to stop using her royal title as part of her commercial work as a clairvoyant, said that before dating the black self-described shaman Durek Verrett she had had no idea about how pervasive racism is.
"Being @shamandurek ‘s girlfriend has given me a crash course in how white supremacy is at play and the way I have consciously and subconsciously thought of and acted towards black people," she admitted in a post on Instagram. "It is in the details (which I had no idea still existed)."
The princess complained that since she had begun dating Verrett, she had noticed the level of distrust many of her friends instantly had for him, some refusing to take his hand, muttering under their breath, or assuming he was manipulating her, or after her money.
"The press presents him as a liar, being violent and a threat to my family and myself, sharing scrupulously his X’s [ex's] story without checking facts, because it supports the belief system already in place about him. THAT IS RACISM!" she wrote.
Märtha Louise, the only daughter and eldest child of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, came under attack last year after she announced that she and Verrett were to give a joint lecture tour titled "The Princess and the Shaman".
The new post came a week after Märtha Louise in another Instagram post expressed her condemnation of the killing of George Floyd.
