The man, described by police as a foreign national in his 40s, poured lighter fluid over himself and threatened to light himself on fire.
“The man had a lighter and a poster that said he was on hunger strike. He poured lighter fluid all over himself,” Oslo Police operation leader Line Skott told TV2.
According to the TV station, a passerby reported the situation to the police and a patrol quickly responded. The man was put on a stretcher and driven away by ambulance.
“He will be taken to the emergency room to be checked so that we can make an assessment of what should happen with him next,” police spokesman Tor Jøkling told TV2.
Jøkling added that the man has done something similar on previous occasions.
The incident occurred at Eidsvoll Square, just west of the parliament building.
