The 35-year-old man fired a single shot from his weapon on entering Stavanger University hospital at around 6pm on Saturday evening.
Rogaland police said they received a call at 6.43pm on Saturday evening. The man was in possession of a handgun when he was arrested in the reception of the emergency department of the hospital. Nobody was harmed in the incident and police believe it was a plea for help from the man.
Police chief Sveinung Ihle said to NTB, following the incident: “The arrested man has not yet been questioned, but there is one aspect indicating that this shooting was a cry for help. The man believes he has the right to health care.”
Local police worked late into Sunda morning investigating the case, and police spokesman Britt Randulff said to NTB: “We have, among other things, searched the car driven by the man.”
