Norwegian wire thief caught copper-handed

A thief trying to steal copper cables was electrocuted after he mistakenly cut a live wire on Wednesday morning.

A man ended up in hospital after breaking into a building and trying to cut an electrical power cable he mistook for a uncharged copper wire. The incident happened in Klavestadhaugen.

Police officer Tommy Moen said to news website SA that the man in his thirties was known to the police as a criminal.

"He was on a theft spree and there was a temporary electricity power cable. He attempted to cut off 15 meters of cable, but ended up getting electrocuted. He was first sent to the emergency ward and from there to the hospital in Fredrikstad for observation," said Moen.
 
The man was not seriously injured. He was interviewed by police following the incident and admitted he was looking to steal copper cable wires.
