Ski star Svindal to come home early citing illness

Norwegian alpine skiing star Aksel Lund Svindal will leave the Winter Olympics prematurely on Tuesday, missing the giant slalom, the Norwegian Ski Federation said on Monday.
The winner of three medals at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Svindal will return to Norway without a podium place and having endured allergy problems, according to the federation. "These problems make me physically tired and I think it's wise to return in order to recover and save strength for the rest of the season," the 31-year-old said in a statement.
