Electric car tops Norway sales for second month
The Nissan Leaf, the Japanese giant's electric car offering was Norway's best-selling car in October, marking the second month an electric vehicle has topped the country's car sales.
According to Norway's car retailer's association, Norwegians bought 716 Leafs in August, ahead of the Toyota Auris and Volkswagen Golf, of which they bought 679 and 646 respectively. "It's the first month that the Leaf is on top," Paal Bruhn of the association told Reuters. "And it's the first time with electric cars on top two months in a row." Norway's five million people have become the world's leading buyers of electric cars, thanks to strong incentives from the government, such as exemption from pricy road tolls, permission to use bus lanes, and free parking. In August, the upmarket Tesla S was the best-selling car, with 616 sales, thanks to a shipment that met a backlog of orders. Tesla sold 98 cars in September.
