VIDEO: Elk family trashes Norway school

A rampaging family of elk has been caught on CCTV vandalising a school in Vestby, south of Oslo. The animals smashed in the door to one of the classrooms, before making their getaway.
"Our janitor he came to school and he saw a broken door," Solveig Eid, the headmistress of Risil School, told The Local."He thought that some children or teenagers had been having a party or whatever and had broken the glass." It was only when he went to check the school's security video that he identified the true culprits. "Suddenly he saw a mother moose and two calves, and she had two children close to her and they were very much afraid." She said she believed that the elk had been frightened by its own reflection. "The mother of the calves, she saw herself in the glass and she wasn't happy about that. She wanted to protect her kids." The classroom whose door the elk destroyed is used to teach children of immigrants recently arrived in Norway about Norwegian language and culture. "We had a big problem explaining to the children what a moose is and what a calf is. But we showed them the video and they laughed," Eid said.
