Oslo's voters will reject the chance of hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022 when they vote on the proposal on 9 September, according to a new poll for NRK.

Asked whether Oslo should host the Olympics, 57 per cent of the Oslo residents polled by research agency Norstat said no, while only 38 percent said they supported the proposal.

IOC member Gerhard Heiberg told NRK that sports stars and politicians would have to mount a major public relations effort to bring the city around.

"We need to start public meetings. Also we need to get the media," IOC member Gerhard Heiberg told NRK.

"We have a job to do," conceded Inge Andersen, Secretary General of the Confederation of Sports.
