Terje Larsen has confessed to carrying out seven recent break-ins around the town of Geilo, bringing the total number of burglaries for which he has been convicted to a staggering 671.

Sigrid Kirkvoll, who reported the theft from her cottage last week, said on Monday she was glad the burglar had been caught.

"We are very relieved,"  she told VG. "It is good to be able to tell this to our children. They have been a little afraid that he would come back."

Police received reports of six other break-ins in the area after announcing that they had arrested Larsen as he travelled away from the town by foot.

Larsen has served a dozen prison sentences since he was first convicted in the 1980s. He eats and drinks in the cabins he breaks into before defecating on the floor.
