Two people were taken to hospital after their car slammed into a store front in Oslo in the early hours of Wednesday, after avoiding a routine traffic police check.

"A car did not stop at a routine control, when police decided to break off the pursuit, the driver decided to accelerate in towards the city centre, where it crashed into a store," Oslo police spokesman Ola Krokan told the NTB news agency.

The driver and a passenger were hurt in the collision, which took place at the corner of Grønlandsleiret and Platous gate.

"They have both been taken to hospital but we do not know the extent of their injuries," Krokan said.
