A family of six from Tromso have been taken to hospital in Uppsala, following a collision near the central Swedish town that has left three of the four children with serious injuries.

Three children are among the injured.

Swedish police received the alarm at 6.34pm on Tuesday evening. The Akademiska hospital in Uppsala are treating the three children, but neither medical or emergency service personnel were at liberty to specify what injuries they had suffered.

"They are seriously injured, but in a stable condition," head doctor Rolf Kristofferson told Upsala Nya Tidning.

The NTB news agency reported that the family's car had collided with a truck.
