The 25-year-old paddler said she answered without hesitation when the question was put to her by the head of the paddling team on Wednesday evening.

“When I was asked, I didn’t need to think about how to answer,” she told news agency NTB.

Verås Larsen plans to take a break from her training to fly to London on Friday morning. In what's likely to be a hectic day, she will carry the national flag at the Olympic Stadium before whizzing back to Norway on Saturday morning to contiinue her preparations.

The canoeist, whose husband Eirik also paddles for Norway, is making her Olympic debut at the London Games.

She will compete in the Kayak Single 500m on August 5th.
