Security staff at airports around the country will end their strike and return to work on Saturday after the government intervened to bring an end to the week-long conflict.

Labour minister Hanne Bjurstrøm announced on Friday evening that the National Wages Board would perform a compulsory arbitration to resolve the dispute between unions and employers.

Fourteen airports were affected by staff shortages and long wait times after wage negotiations broke down and 3,500 security personnel went on strike.

"The situation is so unpredictable that we considered it irresponsible to allow the strike to continue," said the minister.
