A 62-year-old man from Drammen in southern Norway has received a 7-year jail sentence after he was found guilty of sexually abusing his two young daughters.

Follo district court found the man guilty of several counts of rape and sexual assault perpetrated in 2005 against his then 12-year-old and 5-year-old daughters, newspaper Dagbladet reports.

The 62-year-old, a disabled man with a string of previous criminal convictions, also has other children and has been married five times, the newspaper said.

Police were able to tie the man to the crimes after retrieving a computer, a memory stick and a memory card during a raid on his home.

He denied committing the offences and told the court the older girl’s claims were financially motivated.

The district court, however, found the accounts of both girls to be credible and ordered their father to pay each of them non-pecuniary damages of 200,000 kroner ($33,600).
