Bergen’s 'bullet rickshaws' ready to taxi
A taxi for “girls out on the town”, trade show vistyors and tourists is how Bergen’s new “bullet rickshaws” or sykkeltaxiene are being advertised.
The three Berlin-built bullet-shaped bicycle taxis are the hope of local outfit Bergen Sykkeltaxi and its entrepreneurial managing director, Christophersen Knudsen. The 19-year-old told Bergens Tidende he was “sick of working for others”.
In just eight weeks, he has assembled investors, hired staff, ordered the bikes and rented a garage. Now he’s targeting business visitors and ferry passengers as well as nightlife revellers worried about taxi line-ups and unmarked, unlicensed “pirate” taxis.
Christophersen took delivery of his new bikes on Nov. 14th and plans to start shepherding tipsy travellers home by Nov. 24th.
