The unmistakeable buzz of a chainsaw slicing its way through his front door marked a nightmarish start to the new week for a man in Ås, southeast Norway, early on Monday.

Police in nearby Ski said the resident had leapt terrified from his second-storey window in a bid to hide in the forest and call emergency services. The 30-year-old attacker left the house and was quickly arrested, broadcaster NRK reports.

The police report said that after the attacker had cut his way into the house, he realized he had devastated the wrong home and calmly walked outside to await arrest. He said he had merely intended to scare someone with whom he had “unfinished business”.
