The four main teachers' unions met KS on Thursday at Kommunenes Hus in Oslo in an effort to find resolution to the ongoing strikes taking place across Norway.

The Union of Education Norway, Norwegian Association of Graduate Teachers, the National School Association, and Norwegian Musician’s Union met behind closed doors with KS at lunchtime on Thursday in an attempt to end the strikes.

Marianne Fromreide, press spokeswoman for KS, said: “The parties have agreed to not make statements to the media while the talks are ongoing.”

According to a local government  report, the teachers' unions planned to ask the government for help solving the situation. The Minister of Local Government promised to be present at Thursday's meeting in Oslo.

It is not known what the unions believe the government can contribute to the conflict. Minister of Education, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, would not comment when asked by the media if he had anything to contribute.

Isaksen said to NTB: “If we have anything to offer or to contribute, then we will take it up with the parties involved, not the press.” He added he would not enter into any speculation on individual suggestions for solutions.

While the teacher organizations negotiate with KS, the strike goes on. 2,200 additional teachers were taken out for strike action on Thursday. There are now in total around 7,700 teachers on strike.
