A Lithuanian truck driver broke several bones while a tow truck driver made a last-ditch escape as both vehicles veered over the side of a cliff in northern Norway on Sunday.
Extraordinary footage shot from another vehicle shows the driver of the tow truck jumping out at the last moment before his vehicle slides over the guard rail and plummets toward the fjord below near Leirosen, some 700 kilometres north of Oslo.
The 49-year-old truck driver was not so fortunate. He was airlifted to hospital after his rig tumbled 65 metres down the precipice.
Sandnessjøen hospital reported that his condition was serious but stable after the driver suffered multiple broken bones in the fall.
Loaded with a cargo of fish, the truck came to a standstill at 9.30am on Sunday. Not equipped with the right winter tyres, the truck slid off the road shortly before midday, bringing the tow truck with it.
